MIS nurtures, challenges and inspires our students to become academically successful, life-long learners, creative and innovative thinkers, ethical, globally-minded contributors, and healthy, well-balanced individuals.
Easily accessible from Munich, the School takes full advantage of its 26-acre campus in an idyllic nature preserve near Starnberg to provide students with high- quality educational experiences both within well-equipped classrooms, laboratories and performing arts spaces and in our exceptional outdoor facilities.
MIS is a community school where more than 1250+ students comprising 65 nationalities learn together on a single, purpose-built campus. Munich International School promotes excellence in learning and in individual student growth and development. We recruit the most caring, competent and committed teachers and staff from more than two dozen countries.
These educators create a vibrant, diverse, student-centred programme of learning, supported by superior facilities and resources, like our:
With regard to academic performance, 2019 was another banner year for Munich International School:
Students at Munich International School routinely gain admission to the world’s best universities. Our excellent academic programmes are embedded, however, in a holistic, values-based curriculum that provides support and appropriate challenge for every child.
In recent years and with increasing frequency and intensity, we are restructuring our academic work to include more student voice, student choice and student leadership. We are intentionally requiring students to make sense of real-world challenges and to propose novel, innovative solutions. We are implementing more interdisciplinary units of study that call upon students to integrate knowledge and skills from diverse disciplines in order to address compelling, important issues. The outcomes of all of this work are not as easy to quantify as the examination scores up above. However, I can share some of the strategies and actions MIS is implementing in order to nurture this future-focused thinking and learning:
Learning at MIS often looks very different than at other schools. And that is intentional. Parents should not be surprised if their children regale them with stories of using our audio-visual studio to produce short films in German class. Their children may proudly present them with models they created with our 3D printers to demonstrate fault lines for geography class. And they might share personal artwork that they crafted in response to their study of the Holocaust. We believe that the work our children do must have meaning for them, must derive from the realities they experience outside of school, and must prepare them for a complex and changing world. Naturally, it must also prepare them for their formal examinations (and it does!), but our true goals are much deeper and more meaningful than just that.
Balancing the competing demands placed on schools is challenging. But it is also invigorating and inspiring. And Munich International School is fortunate that we can tackle these challenges together with a community of talented, committed, and generous parents and families. Yes, school is changing.
