How important is the physical space for children of this age
In an Early Years classroom, there should be three “teachers”- the adults in the room, the children themselves and the environment. A purposeful learning environment is designed to evoke curiosity, interest and joy from young learners. Early childhood teachers must think carefully about the messages the learning spaces give to the children. Opportunities for messy play, construction and the use of the natural materials communicate that creativity and exploration are part of learning. Choices around what and how to play sends the message that children have ownership in their learning. As students develop, the physical space must be adjusted to provide further challenge and to extend interest. Students should have opportunities to learn in diverse and spaces, with a range of materials. In this way, the child’s interaction with the physical space enables their success and growth.Visit TASIS England's Featured School page
