Ape research and solar lamps: your average school assembly!
Students of the Bavarian International School were delighted be joined by documentary filmmaker Lorenz Knauer, president of the Jane Goodall Institute, as he spoke about Ms Goodall’s work with apes.

The children were shown excerpts from the documentary, “Jane’s Journey” – depicting the achievements of Ms Goodall – which was produced and filmed by Mr. Knauer.As well as studying the work of Jane Goodall in their daily morning registration sessions, BIS students have been learning about JIG’s partnership with Villageboom – a social enterprise aiming to provide affordable solar lamps to people living in rural communities in the developing world.The assembly gave the students the opportunity to delve deeper and to ask questions about ape research and life in Tanzania.Related news:

The Villageboom Money Saver Solar Lamp enables the poorest Tanzanians to have access to ‘free’ light to study, read or work after sunset. At 25 Euros each, students were encouraged to bring in one Euro, collected at the end of the assembly, to help to buy the lamps.Together with 75 Euros raised previously from a cake sale, 250 Euros was collected in total.
