IB schools announce stellar results

The International School of Kaula Lumpur, TASIS The American School in England, St George's British International School in Rome, ACS International School Egham and ACS International School Hillingdon are among schools celebrating IB Diploma and Career programme successes.

Each achieved scores well above the global average for the IB Diploma Programme (DP), 100% pass rates and some notable individual achievements alongside high-performance across the board. Releasing their results from the May 2022 examination session, they were among 5,000 IB schools around the world representing over 173,000 students. All were awaiting the outcome of the first year since the pandemic started that prioritised final examinations where possible, having started the course of study in September 2020.

University places already secured

Among them was Impington International College, a sixth form located in Cambridgeshire, England. It is one of a handful of state schools in the UK offering IB programmes and an IB World School.The school is celebrating that almost 98% of its Diploma Programme (DP) cohort this year have secured their first choice of university in the UK or overseas. Four students are heading to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.Students at Impington International College, which is the UK’s top non-selective IB provider according to the Sunday Times Parent Power 2021 index, passed their DP with an average point score of 36, beating the global average of 32 points. Over a third (35%) attained 40 points or more; equivalent to four A*s at A Level. “We are beyond thrilled for our students who have received their results today; a huge congratulations to all,” comments Bronwyn Wilson, Head of Sixth Form (DP). “This is the first cohort of students who have taken full examinations since the pandemic, and their hard work and determination to succeed and achieve their goals has paid off. “We are proud to have been offering the IB for over 30 years and know how transformational its programmes can be. While it is a delight that our students have secured places at top UK and international universities, it certainly isn’t a surprise. The IB far better prepares students for higher education than any other post-16 qualification out there.”

Opening international career pathways

Impington International College also offers the IB Career Programme (CP). This year, 95% of CP students are heading to Russell Group universities, leading drama schools and sport institutions around the world and across the UK, including: Loughborough University, Hartpury University, Performers College, The Open College of the Arts, BIMM, Wilkes Academy, Italia Conti and Bath Spa University.Leanne Gibbons, Head of Sixth Form (CP), says, “The CP is a truly unique programme that blends academic learning with career-related experience, and allows our students to develop their expertise across that range in Performing Arts, Sport and Health and Social Care.“The last few years have been hard for our students, and I am ecstatic that their passions have been recognised by leading providers across the UK. Tailored study choices at ISKL

Students at The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) received outstanding results in this year’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. ISKL’s Head of School, Rami Madani described the school’s results as “a testament to the hard work, resilience, and determination of its students, teachers, and administrators especially after the challenging circumstances of the past couple of years”.ISKL is unique in the flexibility of its High School academic programs, offering both the IB Diploma Programme and the ISKL Pursuits Program, which give students the opportunity to combine individual IB, AP and High School Diploma courses to create their own programme of study and to tailor their study choices depending on their post-secondary ambitions worldwide.ISKL is the longest-running IB World school in Malaysia. Two students in this year's ISKL cohort were among the very top students worldwide to achieve a perfect score of 45 points, placing them in what is typically the top one per cent of IBDP candidates globally. A further six students scored 44 points and 32% of students scored 40 or more points, results that typically place students in the top 10 per cent of worldwide IB Diploma scores. A fifth of students earned a Bilingual Diploma in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.ISKL students taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses also achieved outstanding results. The average ISKL AP subject score was 4 out of a possible 5 points, with 70% of ISKL’s AP candidates scoring 4 or 5, which, according to AP standards, represent students who are "very well qualified" or "extremely well qualified" respectively. AP exam scores can earn credits or advanced placement, or both, at the majority of colleges and universities in the US and Canada.“Whether academic, sporting, performance, arts, service, or sustainability, ISKL offers every student the opportunity to explore their passions, develop their competencies, and shape their path as global citizens in an inclusive and caring environment," commented Rami Madani. Supporting aspirations at Southbank International School

The Higher Education and Careers team at Southbank International School have again done a superb job matching student aspirations to future options, says the central London IB World school, which has campuses in Kensington, Hampstead and Westminster and caters for children aged 3-18. The team looks hard to find the best-fit destination where Southbank graduates will be happy, successful and thrive in their post-Southbank endeavours - a goal central to the school's ethos.As a result, 97% of Southbank 2022 graduates secured a place at their first-choice university this summer. Overall, Southbank's class of 2022 achieved:

a 98% pass rate with 17% achieving a bilingual diploma
an average Diploma score of 35.8 (2022 world average is 31.98)
25% achieved a score of 40 or higher, putting them in the top 3% of students worldwide (based on 2021 scores)
one student scored a perfect score of 45 out of 45.

Fabienne Fontaine, Diploma Programme Coordinator, said: "The students have worked hard to get to these results and have managed to get back into the routine to be ready for the exams and the next stage ahead of them. Bilingual Diploma success

In Surrey, TASIS, The American School in England, a leading independent co-educational school for day (3-18) and boarding pupils (13-18) who represent over 60 nationalities, also recorded results that outranked the global averages. Students’ posted an average score of 35, with 24% receiving a bilingual IB Diploma. Commenting on the IB Diploma journey for this year’s cohort, Head of School Bryan Nixon says, “We are delighted that the hard work and dedication of our students has resulted in a very good set of school and individual results.“In addition to these high scores, the real achievement for the Class of 2022 was their commitment to their learning, their service to our school community, and the attributes of being principled, open-minded, and compassionate that they displayed throughout all the opportunities they grasped and the challenges they faced.“Our congratulations go to our students and our thanks go to our teachers for facilitating this learning and to the families who have supported their children and our school throughout the past two years.”Remarking on the unique challenges during this period, Stephanie Feo Hughes, Head of Upper School, says, “We are so proud of all our IB students, who have shown determination and resilience in their two years as diploma candidates.“Their excellent results show not only their understanding of the subjects they have studied, but also the mastery of skills that will serve them in the next phase of their learning journey. An impressive set of results

At St George’s British International School in Rome announced their graduating cohort performed above national and global averages. This year’s graduating cohort of 78 Diploma Programme pupils achieved a 100% pass rate and an average points score of 37. St George’s pupils have excelled with 45% of candidates achieving an average score of 38 points or more out of a maximum of 45, and 29% of pupils achieving an average of 40 points or more.

These excellent results will see St George’s students progressing to prestigious universities around the world, with the Class of 2022 holding offers from leading universities in the UK (Imperial, UCL, King’s College London, St Andrew’s, Warwick, Durham), the USA (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Georgetown, NYU) and Canada (McGill, Toronto, UBC). Elsewhere across Europe, Bocconi (Italy), Trinity College (Ireland) and Delft (Netherlands) are among the leading colleges and universities to which the Class of 2022 have received offers. Pupils are now in the process of selecting and confirming their final destination for their undergraduate studies.

Recognising the successes of the cohort, Head of Senior School, Ms Mary-Clare Startin commented: “We are very proud of the Class of 2022 and delighted for this graduating group. The results they have achieved are not only testament to their academic abilities but also their resilience and commitment, having faced disruption and challenges to their learning experience over the last two years. Their determination to give of their best and support one another throughout these challenges is a reflection not just of their ability but also of their character.”

Lifelong learning

ACS International School Egham, which offers broad selection with no entry exams is the only school in the UK to offer all four IB programmes and the entire IB continuum for all ages (4-18). DP students achieved an average point score of 36. One student also achieved a near-perfect score of 44, which is roughly equivalent to five A*s at A Level. Jeremy Lewis, Head of School, ACS Egham, comments, "I am extremely proud of this year’s graduating IB students and their teachers and all they have achieved. “Despite the various challenges that arose this year, they have continued to shine and exceed expectations.“ACS Egham offers the entire IB education from junior through to sixth form, with the DP being a culmination of everything students have learnt throughout their time with us.“I am confident that this year's graduates will go on to further study or the world of work being fully prepared to take responsibility, maximise their talents and be well-rounded individuals.” Students at fellow ACS group school, ACS International School Hillingdon, also achieved an outstanding set of DP results, including the highest possible score of 45, and an average IB point score of 36. This year, ACS International School Hillingdon’s first IB CP students also graduated with a pass; Isabella will now go on to pursue media and communications at university and keen actor, Kabir, intends to study acting and performance at UAL Wimbledon College of Arts.The school also offers the US High School Diploma and Advanced Placement (AP) programmes as alternatives to A Levels and is the first school in Europe to offer the Global Citizens Diploma (GCD), a unique qualification that goes beyond academic results to acknowledge all of the exceptional citizenship and service-related activities students undertake to become global citizens. 100% pass rate at Kent College

At Kent College, Canterbury, which is regularly in the top 10 for small cohort IB schools in the UK and also offers A Levels, DP students achieved a 100% pass rate with 40% of the cohort achieving over 40 points. Five students also secured bilingual diplomas. Head of School, Justus, and Laura were delighted to be awarded the maximum 45 points, while Daisy also did exceptionally well with 44 points. All three received their results while out on their Gold, Duke of Edinburgh assessment expedition in the Lake District and took a moment out from the rigours of hiking to celebrate.This year’s cohort is going on to read subjects as diverse as Law, Nuclear Engineering, Zoology, International Social policy, Bio Medicine and Economics at top British universities from Cambridge, to a variety of Russell group universities including, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Exeter.The average points score at the school, when translated into UCAS (university entrance) points, is similar to the number of points awarded for straight As.Head of Kent College, Mark Turnbull said, "I am delighted for the students who have worked hard and done so well in achieving places at top universities, and I am grateful to colleagues for their efforts in delivering such inspirational and supportive learning."

One of the top IB schools in Brussels

Montgomery International School in Brussels celebrated exceptional IB results from their class of 2022. They received a 100% pass rate with an average score of 37 points. 30% of their graduates obtained a score of 40 points of higher making Montgomery one of the top IB schools in Brussels.Their students have been accepted to a number of prestigious universities across the world, including: University College of London, University of Glasgow, King’s College London, Science Politique Grenoble, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Delft University of Technology, Erasmus University Rotterdam etc. As well as choosing a wide diversity of specialities, among which medicine, graphic design, law, engineering, international relations, digital design development, business engineering, physiotherapy, global sustainability science, biology, economics, mathematical and computer sciences for artificial engineering.

Flexible learning offers a great opportunity for students to study

The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) received outstanding results in this year’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).ISKL is the longest-running IB World school in Malaysia and continued its long-held tradition of outperforming the worldwide IB Diploma average score with students scoring an average of 36.2 points and achieving a 98 per cent pass rate. Worldwide averages (not currently released by the IB) are typically around 32 points and an 85 per cent pass rate). Two students from ISKL were among the very top students worldwide to achieve a perfect score of 45 points, placing them in what is typically the top one per cent of IBDP candidates globally. 11 students were awarded the presitgious bilingual diploma

Dulwich College in Singapore are pleased to share the outstanding IB results their students recieved.They recieved a 100% pass rat, an average point score 38.9 and a 47.7% students achieved 40 or more points. Dulwich college were delighted with these results.

Work hard, be determined and support one another

Munich International School are proud of all of their 2022 MIS graduates. As a group, the MIS class of 2022 achieved outstanding results, with an average IB Diploma score of 37. 100% of eligible candidates were successful in achieving the IB Diploma. 3 students achieved the highest possible IB Diploma score: 45 points! 19 students in the MIS class of 2022 scored 42 points or higher: a 1.0 Abiturdurchschnitt. 30 students in the MIS class of 2022 scored 40+ points and finally 95% achieved 30 points or more
