GCSE celebrations at King’s Ely
King’s Ely students have achieved a stellar set of GCSE results, with more than a quarter of all grades being the highest 9-8, equivalent to the old A*.

James Barber, who joined King’s Ely Senior in Year 9 from St Faith’s School in Cambridge, achieved all grades 9-7. He will be studying A-Levels in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Further Maths here at King’s Ely Sixth Form. James said: “I am very happy with my results. I revised lots and it all feels worth it now. I am looking forward to studying subjects that I really enjoy at A-Level. Career wise, I hope to go into engineering, maybe aerospace engineering.”Sienna Burley achieved grades 9-8 in eight of her GCSE subjects. Sienna, who joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 8, is studying Biology, Chemistry, and Maths for her A-Levels, and she aspires to study medicine at university. Sienna, who started volunteering at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge this summer through the Young Persons Programme, said: “I am staying at King’s Ely for Sixth Form, and I am excited to study subjects that I love. I worked hard for my GCSEs, but I would have never got such good grades without the amazing support of my teachers. I am also looking forward to the Sixth Form socials!”William Kirkup, who has been at King’s Ely since joining our Nursery in 2011, achieved all grades 9-7 in his subjects. He will be studying A-Levels in Classical Civilisation, Fine Art, and Film Studies here. William said: “I am considering a career in theatre set design, although that is not set in stone. I really enjoy my music and the music department here at King’s is exceptional, which is one of the reasons I am staying on for Sixth Form. I also love the fact that all our teachers know us as individuals, which means the support is strong.” Twenty-five pupils from all corners of the globe also received their results today having studied the one-year IGCSE programme at King’s Ely. The two-term intensive course sees young people studying in their non-native speaking language, and the average number of subjects taken is six. King’s Ely is delighted to report another excellent set of IGCSE grades, with an overall pass rate of 94%. More than two thirds of IGCSE results were grades 9-6. Two students achieved grade 9s in all their subjects.Mr Matthew Norbury, Director for International Students at King’s Ely, said: “Our IGCSE students arrive in England for the first time ever in September, and just seven months later they are successfully sitting their IGCSEs in an education system they have never experienced before.
