Canada

OVERALL RISK RATING: NEGLIGIBLECanada has a low threat of terrorism. However, the attack earlier this year on a Quebec mosque shows that the county is not threat-free. Anti-terrorism laws have been tightened since attacks by Canadian extremist Muslim converts in 2014.

Crime rate

The level of crime is generally similar to other western states and is not a major problem, although thieves have been known to target tourist hotels.

Medical facilities

Medical care is excellent, especially in major cities. In more remote areas, medical resources are limited and a sick expat may need to be transferred to a major city for care. If this is the case, emergency response times may be slow and sometimes an air evacuation is the only option.Prepare for long, cold winters and short, hot summers and for dangerous animals in wilderness areas. Altitude sickness is also common above 2,500 metres.
