Leo celebrates four A* grades and a place at Oxford University, joining 11 others from the sixth form securing Oxbridge places this yearStudents at Cardiff Sixth Form College, Cambridge, a leading boarding and day sixth form that is part of
Dukes Education family of schools and educators, have gained outstanding results this year with over half of all grades (58%) marked A* at A level.
Half of all students (49.6%) achieved three or more A* grades, with a third of the whole cohort achieving four or more A* grades. Six students gained at least five A* grades and one student, Cathy, achieved a remarkable six A*s in biology, chemistry, physics, maths, further maths and Chinese and has an offer to read medicine at Hong Kong University.
Almost nine in ten (87.5%) of all students achieved three or more A grades and 107 students achieved all A*–A grades.
Results for top university entrance have also been excellent with 10% of the Cardiff Sixth Form College 2024 alumni achieving their places at Oxbridge. Twelve out of 12 Oxbridge university offers were met with students studying a range of subjects including PPE, medicine, law, natural sciences, engineering, physics, French, mathematics, human, social and political science, psychology and linguistics.
Over half of all students (55%) gained places at Russell Group universities and almost 40% achieved places at the coveted G5 universities – Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL and Imperial College.
The results reflect many inspiring and international learning journeys. Some students have chosen to study at overseas universities with 80% of all Cardiff Sixth Form College students winning places at the QS Top 100 universities in the world. Particular success has been students winning places to study medicine with a quarter of the cohort (26%) going on to study the subject this year. Cardiff helps students prepare extensively for medical careers through their critical thinking, work placement, volunteering and super curricular programme.
“This has been another incredible cohort of Cardiff Sixth Form College students in 2024 who will be remembered for their work ethic and high standards which have been rightly recognised with outstanding results” said Principal, Tom Arrand. “It is a privilege to work with such motivated and inspirational students, and the staff who have facilitated their success.”

A fifth of A levels this year are the top A* grade and three-quarters grade A*–B. The overall pass rate is 100%. These fantastic results not only reflect students’ hard work and determination, but also teachers’ and mentors’ expertise and commitment for them to succeed. As a marker of their all-round, enriched education, King’s Ely pupils will study subjects as diverse as medicine, music, film production and finance.

I would like to offer my congratulations to both our Year 13 pupils for their hard work and determination, as well as our teachers for their teaching and guidance. I hope that families will be able to celebrate this important milestone. As a cohort, this year group has contributed in so many positive ways to school life and they will certainly be missed.”
University destinations
All four King’s Ely students holding Oxbridge offers achieved the top grades to take up their places this year – Lily to study Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge; Kit to study music at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge; Samuel to study music at Queens’ College, Cambridge; and Elliot to study history at St Hugh’s College, Oxford.
Twenty-four students achieved all A*–A grades and 48 pupils earned all A*–B grades. Popular university destinations include Bath, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, London, York and Newcastle. Four pupils are going on to study medicine this year, including Sydney, who secured her first-choice place at Cardiff University. Sydney has been at King’s Ely since joining Nursery in 2008. “I have wanted to study medicine for several years now and it was a huge relief this morning to see that I had achieved the grades I needed. I have been at King’s my entire life. It is an amazing school. Everyone is so supportive of each other and I have been able to do so much alongside my studies, such as sport, music, Ely Scheme and lots of different trips.”
Samuel achieved the grades he needed to be Organ Scholar at Queens’ College, Cambridge, joining King’s Ely in year 9 from King's College School, Cambridge. “I am so pleased with my results and very relieved. I feel like all the hard work has paid off. The teaching at King’s really is fantastic. The class sizes are small, and everyone is known as an individual, which I feel makes the school community at King’s unique. The music and drama Departments are also exceptional.”
Sophie is heading to her first choice too – Oxford Brookes University to study international hospitality and hotel management.“The dream career for me is event management for a large hotel chain overseas or on a super yacht – basically a career that will allow me to travel. I have loved my time at King’s. It is an incredible place to be and you must make the most of every opportunity here. I feel that I have done exactly that, from football to drama productions, I am leaving on such a high.”
Thomas Kirkpatrick will be studying horology (the art of making clocks and watches) at Birmingham City University after achieving the grades he needed. Thomas, who joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 5, said: “When my grandfather passed away, he left me his Rolex watch. I was fascinated by how it worked, and this is what sparked my interest in horology. It is a very niche degree, but all my teachers have been so supportive, encouraging me to pursue what really interests me.”
Vocational qualification success
As well as offering almost 30 different A level courses, King’s Ely also enables pupils to study vocational Level 3 diploma qualifications in business studies, and food and nutrition. This year, 86% of students achieved at least a distinction, a third of which were a starred distinction. From September 2024, King’s Ely will also be offering the Extended Certificate in Sport. These qualifications are equivalent to one A level and taken alongside A levels.
This year, twenty-seven students also completed Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs) in addition to their A level subjects, which are equivalent to 50% of an A level. More than 70% of students achieved an A*
–A grade.

I am especially pleased that our results continue to climb even by this measure and are well above where they were in 2019, the benchmark; this demonstrates King’s Ely’s continuing presence as a first-rate academic Sixth Form alongside our well-known strengths in the arts and co-curriculum.”

Headington School, Oxford
Results Day 2024 at Headington SchoolA day and boarding school for girls aged 3–18, Headington School's results day saw many students receive higher results than predicted. There were exceptional individual results in a range of subjects, with an impressive 61% of exams graded at A*–A and 87% at A*–B overall. Every student taking photography and computer science achieved the highest grade, while 100% of those taking German, Greek, Japanese, music, religious studies and textile design achieved A*-A grades. Students' sporting and co-curricular activities also helped cement their excellent results.
Eight students achieved three or more A*s and will take up places at Oxford or Cambridge Universities. Zara – a Headington student since the age of 8 – is going to Corpus Christi College to study English. “I am so excited, just really thrilled. It has been such a long journey, I’m so excited to finally be going to Oxford and also so pleased to be sticking around in my home town! I genuinely don’t think I would be able to even have gone through the application process without the support of everyone, it has been absolutely incredible. I’m going to miss it!”
Helena and Alice, two members of a 2024 Henley Royal Regatta gold-winning rowing eight, will be heading further afield. Both secured places to study at Ivy League universities: Helena at Princeton and Alice at Dartmouth.
Overall, this year's A-level cohort will move on to studies in a range of varied and creative courses, including biomedical engineering, film production, popular music and fashion design. Grace and Katarina will both be headed to Arts University Bournemouth to study film production. Grace said: “The Art Department has definitely been pushing alternative creative routes rather than just fine art or photography and they’re really passionate about their subjects, which gives you a bit of headway before you get started.”
For future vet Emily, her A*AA grades have secured her a place to study veterinary science at Bristol. During her time at Headington, she was hockey captain and also founded the Veterinary Society. “Ever since I was so young I have always loved animals and wanted to be a vet. The school has been very supportive, not just academically, but also emotionally. I am so happy I stayed here for Sixth Form; it has got me where I need to be!”
Headmistress Mrs Caroline Jordan said: “What an absolutely tremendous set of results! I am incredibly proud of these girls, their attitude to learning and approach to school life. They have demonstrated immense hard work and dedication and I am so excited to see what they continue to achieve in the future. I’d also like to thank the fantastic work from our teaching staff to support, encourage and inspire the girls to achieve their very best.”
From September 2024, Headington School will merge with Rye St Antony to form Headington Rye Oxford, a school for girls aged 3–18 and boys aged 3–11.

Radnor House marks results day 2024Students and staff at independent co-ed day school
Radnor House Sevenoaks are celebrating an exceptional set of A level results – the first under the leadership of new head, David Paton, who joined in January 2024.
With a 100% A level pass rate, every student leaving the sixth form achieved A*–C grades. They now head to prestigious Russell Group universities and other highly regarded institutions across the UK, with 96% of students securing their university of choice.
These include Ella, who achieved A*AAA and now set to study English at the University of York, and Mia, who earned A*AAA and will be reading psychology and mathematics at Newcastle University. Edward achieved AABB and will be studying philosophy at the University of York. Reflecting on his journey, Edward said: "I'm really pleased with my results. I just had to keep pushing. Thank you, Radnor, for everything.”
David Paton, head of Radnor House said he was thrilled to celebrate the achievements of this year's upper sixth form. "Individual accomplishments, including a string of A*s and As for Ed, Imogen, Louis, Ella, and Mia, highlight the hard work and dedication of our students. Having returned to the school in January after a three-year break, it is especially meaningful to celebrate these successes at such a pivotal moment. I am incredibly proud of all of our students and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours."

Results day success at Stephen PerseStudents at co-ed independent day and boarding school
Stephen Perse Cambridge are celebrating an excellent set of A level results, with almost a third (29%) of this year’s cohort achieving three grades at A*–A.
Overall, through students’ and teachers dedication and support, a fifth of grades were A*, 48% at A*–A, 75% at A*–B and 87% at A*–C. The results enable them to transition to the next phase of their study at Russell Group universities and prestigious institutions around the world, including the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University College of London, Durham University, University of Warwick and Syracuse University in the USA.
Demonstrating their passion and versatility for learning, Stephen Perse students undertook a broad range of subjects during their A level studies. They will now study in diverse fields of study, including medicine, optometry, mechanical engineering, product design, jewellery and silversmithing, as well as physics, law and biochemistry.
Among the cohort celebrating is Lydia, who will be going to Hull York Medical School to study medicine. "The immense support from my teachers not only helped my friends and me achieve our full academic potential, but also allowed me to develop my independent study skills and a healthy work-life balance," she said. "It’s so useful to be guided through the process. I am very grateful they have supported me in my pursuit of a career in medicine.”
International student Matvii will also now study engineering at the University of Oxford and has plans to become an aerospace engineer. Matvii chose to study at Stephen Perse Cambridge for his A levels because of the school’s welcoming atmosphere. “I’ve enjoyed the diverse and supportive environment. You are constantly informed of the extra opportunities you can participate in, which helped my personal statement stand out from other candidates and helped me to secure engineering offers from Southampton, Manchester and Oxford.”
Richard Girvan, principal at the Stephen Perse, expressed pride and admiration for the students’ achievements, noting their dedication and hard work. “Our students’ accomplishments are a result of their unwavering determination and effort, aided by the support not only from families, but also our incredible teaching staff, who I’m sure will be just as proud as I am.
Clifton College Bristol
International destinations ahead for Clifton College alumniCelebrating the success of this year’s A level and Btec students, independent day and boarding school Clifton College said student’s hard work and dedication “has truly paid off to achieve a brilliant set of results, and we couldn’t be prouder”.
Jude, who joined the school in pre-prep, achieved four A*s in double maths, physics and Ancient Greek and will be studying mathematics at university. Poppy’s three A*s in maths, chemistry and physics will see her take up a place at Oxford University to study chemistry.
Clifton College is also celebrating international scholarship success. Clemmie and Izzy both secured full scholarships to go to universities in America. Clemmie leaves for the US shortly and plans to major in chemistry at Princeton. Izzy will take a gap year in New Zealand before taking up the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and plans to major in psychology.
The majority of Clifton College’s pupils secured offers for their first-choice universities and turned their hard work into an impressive set of results that have created myriad exciting opportunities, said the school. Nick Mills, head of sixth form, said, “It’s wonderful to see our students fulfilling their aspirations, with the vast majority now heading to their chosen universities to embark upon a wide range of courses. It’s also great to see a record number of students winning places at leading universities overseas, notably in the US. Congratulations to all our leavers for achieving such positive outcomes and I wish them all the best for the next exciting chapter of their lives.”

Queen Anne’s Reading
Students and parents celebrateDay and boarding school Queen Anne’s School in Reading, which educates girls from 11-18, commends its 20204 cohort for “powering through the challenges of recent years” to achieve 84% or results at A*-C grades and 36% A*-A.
Queen Anne’s students go on to universities including Exeter, Durham, St Andrew’s, LSE, Bath, King’s College London and other Russell Group universities.
Keira, a high-level trampolinist who joined Queen Anne’s from Lambrook School, will take up her place studying biomiedical science at the University of York. Ella joined Queen Anne’s in 2018 and is also a high-level trampolinist, who will go on to study law at the University of Bath after achieving A*, A*, A.
STEM subjects are popular among Queen Anne’s students, including medicine pathways. Deputy head girl Georgia achieved A, A, A and will be studying medicine at Plymouth University after a gap year. Helen, who is from Hong Kong, confirmed her place at the London School of Economics and Political Science to study environment and sustainable development with economics.
Other notable achievements came from Katie, who received A* A* A, including full marks in all her English literature papers. More of the cohort achieved a clean sweep of A* and A grades, including Aine, with 3 A*s, and Issy, with A*, A*, A.
The PE department were particularly proud of Alice, who gained an A in English literature, A in Geography and A in PE and will now study physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham. Criminology students at Queen Anne’s had an excellent year, with 86% achieving an A* or A grade. Ben Stephenson, director of sixth form and incoming deputy head academic, said the results are a testament to students’ dedication and curiosity. "It’s incredibly rewarding to witness their hard work pay off, and I couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments.”
