International Boarding School Louisenlund
The future lies in the hands of our children.

Innovative education for more than 75 years
After the Second World War, Friedrich Herzog zu Schleswig-Holstein took heart in 1949 and founded the Louisenlund Foundation, a state-recognized, independent grammar school with a boarding school, based on the reformist educational principles of his friend and co-founder Kurt Hahn. His vision of a holistic educational institution was forward-looking from the outset and is now regarded as a beacon of education beyond Germany's borders. At Louisenlund, the international oriented IB program begins with MYP4 and continues through MYP5, DP1, and DP2, culminating in the International Baccalaureate diploma. In the form offered at Louisenlund, this diploma grants access to all universities in Germany and most other European countries. The school language is English.Droneflight Stiftung Louisenlund
Individual, personalized and collaborative - pedagogy at Louisenlund
The Louisenlund pedagogy is an innovative and successful lighthouse project in the German educational landscape. It is based on three pillars: academic education, personal development and community.Experiential education emphasizes direct experience and hands-on learning. It emphasizes first-hand learning and personal discovery rather than focusing solely on theoretical knowledge. Important social and personal skills such as teamwork, self-confidence, initiative and problem-solving skills are encouraged.Louisenlund has abolished school classes and replaced them with personalized education. With the help of carefully curated digitalized learning modules, young people work through their learning material independently and the role of the teacher changes from knowledge mediator to coach. At Louisenlund, we do not think of school in terms of teaching, but consistently in terms of learning. This turns many processes and habits upside down because the focus is on the topics of “diversity” and “people”. Every student is unique and learns in their own individual way. That is why we tailor the learning content to the personal needs, experiences and interests of each student.

International educational campus with many opportunities
In an interconnected world, cosmopolitanism and intercultural competence are important factors for personal progress and social success. We value the diversity on our boarding school campus. With students and teachers from over 20 nations, we give everyone at Louisenlund the opportunity for international exchange and consciously promote intercultural understanding. As members of various international associations such as Round Square, the young people have regular contact with other cultures. We also convey an understanding of other cultures and their languages through our Rwanda Coffee Guild, other social projects and the newly founded sister school Ntare Louisenlund School in Rwanda.Since its foundation, Louisenlund has been a place where personalities can develop who have the courage to take on responsibility and volunteer to serve the community and act as shapers of the future.
