Louisenlund at a glance
Since 1949, the Louisenlund Foundation, situated near the Balic Sea, has been offering its students small, motivating learning groups with varied and distinctive learning and experience opportunities, including bilingual ones. In response to globalization, in addition to the German high school graduation called Abitur, there is also the opportunity to take the globally recognized International Baccalaureate Diploma. International perspectives are also offered by the Round Square school partnerships in over 30 countries and a worldwide alumni network. To develop personal strengths and talents, there is a wide range of additional educational activities on offer, including sailing, theater or orchestra, technical relief work or the debating society.
As the only boarding school with a plus-MINT talent development center in northern Germany, we open up all opportunities for special support in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. From the school year 2025/26, sailors will have the opportunity to live out their sporting passion to the full in the boarding school in one of the most attractive sailing areas in Schleswig-Holstein. The “plus sailing” support program, which is specially designed for sailing enthusiasts, combines sailing perfectly with the school leaving certificate and boarding school life.
As part of the International Baccalaureate, Louisenlund is the only boarding school in Germany to offer the last two years of the Middle Years Program (MYP) and the Diploma Program (DP). These programs are designed to provide students with a comprehensive, globally recognized education that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of a globally networked world. The school language is English. In addition, the IB World School Louisenlund is also accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC CIE).
The Leadership for Impact program at IB World School Louisenlund is committed to fostering leadership skills that create meaningful change. Our goal is to develop servant leaders, creative thinkers and innovative problem solvers who inspire change in their communities and beyond.
Through this program, we empower young people to lead with purpose, compassion and vision, giving them the tools to make a lasting impact and shape a better future for all.
This program builds a crucial bridge between academic knowledge and practical, transformative skills and uniquely complements the IB's Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP).
The IB Diploma Program has a high academic standard. For this reason, each student is assessed individually during the admissions process in order to make the most accurate prediction possible regarding their future chances of success on the path to the IB Diploma.
Applicants for the MYP must have completed the previous year with good grades and demonstrate a positive attitude and a willingness to work consistently and effectively.
International students who wish to attend the IB World School in Louisenlund do not need to know German, but have the unique opportunity to learn additional German and use it in the boarding school community.
School in Louisenlund is individual
We have abolished classrooms and traditional teaching and replaced them with the Louisenlund pedagogy in the form of personalized education and holistic personal development. In small learning groups and with intensive pedagogical support from personal mentors, the pupils work independently on the learning content according to certain guidelines, depending on the year group, and thus take responsibility for their educational path. They record this in their own learning portfolios, which, like a kind of school curriculum vitae, record successes and how they deal with challenges, special moments or outstanding events. At the end, there is a detailed report on their school career at Louisenlund. These basic ideas of the “inverted classroom model” are not only new for learners, but also change the role of teachers to that of learning guides or coaches.
Louisenlund's pedagogy follows these basic ideas.
At Louisenlund, pupils are given the tools to confidently and courageously start a course of study or training after school. They actively shape their environment by consciously and voluntarily contributing to society.
The application process for both the boarding school and the International Baccalaureate consists of several steps. After the initial contact, we answer questions and try to find out together with the student and parents whether we have the right school offer in Louisenlund. If this is the case, we collect the necessary information from the child and parents in order to provide the best possible advice. We then get to know each other personally at a video-conference or on a consultation day at the educational campus in Louisenlund. With guided tours, shared meals and intensive discussions, we give pupils and their parents the opportunity to experience Louisenlund live in the day-to-day running of the boarding school. In a welcome week tailored to the arrival, we give the children the chance to settle into the boarding school, get to know the campus and quickly make friends.
Our educational advisors from the Admissions Office look forward to hearing from you.
