Whether a family has made a domestic or international relocation, settling into a new school can be difficult for children. A great way to help them acclimatise to a new education environment and make friends in the new location, is for them to attend a summer programme.TASIS The American School in England, an international school based in Surrey, was recently awarded the British Youth Travel Award (BYTA) 2019 for Best Educational Product for its Summer Program.TASIS England’s head of school, Bryan Nixon, said the award is a testament to the school’s community and mission. He added, “TASIS England nurtures intellectual curiosity and emboldens each learner to flourish as a principled, open-minded and compassionate member of a global community.”The TASIS England Summer Program is open to all students and the school annually hosts 350-400 students from about 30 countries. The programme is run by TASIS – rather than an outside agency – and takes place on its Surrey campus during two three-week sessions every summer. Students can also opt to stay for the full six weeks. It is fully residential, but it sometimes takes on a few day students.Students can improve their English (offered at six levels) or take an enrichment course – anything from Fashion & Textile Design to International Business. In addition, all students take an elective course. There are sports and activities every day, as well as weekend excursions. Each three-week session ends with a banquet followed by an evening river boat disco cruise along the River Thames in London.Mary Mitchell, TASIS associate director of marketing, added, “It’s a great way for young people to pursue an interest and get a taste of life as a boarding student, all while having an unforgettable summer holiday experience.”
