Saatchi’s Robert Senior talks leadership – and revolution
Only inspirational leadership and a ‘revolution in language’ can bring about transformational change in business and education, says Saatchi & Saatchi’s worldwide CEO in an interview with Relocate.
Widening horizons
Robert Senior reflected on his time at the British School in the Netherlands, explaining that he believed it had prepared him for life in the world today. A large part of this, he felt, was that international schools challenged the rules and widened horizons – learning with children from a variety of countries encouraged them to accept differences more freely.Experiencing the transient nature of an international school’s population and the mix of many different cultures and languages was enormously beneficial to young people in a fast-changing world. As ‘norms’ were increasingly challenged, he reflected that this had helped him to adapt and develop in his career.More education videos:

Using examples from industry, he urged his audience to be innovative, using a quote from Marc Pritchard, chief brand officer for P&G, “If we don’t transform our business, we’ll all be Ubered”.Mr Senior explained his thoughts on fundamental change – that revolution started with language. As an example, he compared mission statements for well-known brands such as Pepsi and Apple, arguing that a mission statement needed to go beyond the ‘what’ to an aspirational level. He counselled that educationalists had a wonderful leadership opportunity to aim high and to encourage their pupils to maximise their potential. For related news and features, visit our Enterprise section.Access hundreds of global services and suppliers in our Online Directory Get access to our free Global Mobility Toolkit
